I aggressively collected geocoins from May 2006 through to the end of 2008. Presented here are 986 of the approximately 1,040 geocoins I acquired during the frenzy.

Prague 2006

Prague 2006

Like most State, Provincial, or Country geocoins, this is a commercial issue. I have included it in my collection because of its interesting subject matter: The Prague Orloj aka the Prague Astronomical Clock. This type of clock uses special mechanisms to display astronomical data, such as the positions of the sun, moon, constellations, and sometimes major planets. The clock in the old town hall of Prague, Czech Republic, is one of the most famous examples. The main part of the clock was completed in 1410. On the hour four figures are set in motion (not shown on the geocoin) with a skeleton (Death) striking the time.

You can read more about astronomical clocks, and see some better pictures, HERE. (The geocoin design really doesn't do this work of art justice.)
